September Workshops

Welcome to our September Workshops, please go through the list below and book yourself into any classes that interest you.

 

New members will have to complete our enrolment form before being able to book.

We’re offering a range of workshops for the end of our Pride Term, focusing on different styles which are currently not offered in the regular GMDC Timetable, with teachers outside of our usual circle. This is a great chance for you to try out something new and pick up some new skills. See below for the full list of workshops, and click the links to book.

All workshop classes will take place at Husky Studios: 29a Amelia St, Kennington/Elephant & Castle, SE17 3PY

Monday 6th September: Vogue, New-Way (Beg/Gen 6:30-7:45pm, Int/Adv 7:45-9pm) with Sattva Ninja
Vogue New-way is one of the newer styles of Vogue. This styles combines elements of Hand performance and floor performance with a focus on clean lines, sharp movements and exaggerated flexibility.

Sattva Ninja is the New Way and Arms Control assassin from HBO Max LEGENDARY Season 1.

Tuesday 7th September: Bollywood Fusion / Indie Divor (Beg/Gen 6:30-7:45pm, Int/Adv 7:45-9pm) with Raimu Itfum
This class focuses on empowering, having fun and finding your connection to movement. It’s rooted in a South Asian dance style however, challenges that style by creating a hybrid of classical and modern movement; You might do sections inspired by Bharatnatyam or Odissi or Bhangra and blend that with Contemporary or Wacking or even Tribal Dance.

Wednesday 8th September: The Hustle (Beg/Gen 6:30-7:45pm, Int/Adv 7:45-9pm) with Nik & Damola
Hustle is a partner dance originating from New York in the early 70s. It was pioneered by the gay community and danced at infamous clubs such as Ice Palace, Crisco Disco and Paradise Garage. Unlike most partner dances, Hustle has always been gender neutral therefore everyone can learn to lead, follow or do both.

Wednesday 15th September: Cheerleader Skank (All Levels, 7-9pm) with Alex Scurr
Think The Clovers from Bring it On meets New Zealand dance troupe The Royal Family. In this 2 hour workshop you’ll be taking elements of cheerleading and merging with modern street dance to dance a group number that’s tight, in sync and super skanky.

Thursday 16th September: Gender Through Movement (All Levels, 6:30-8pm)
Gender Through Movement is a workshop on Femininity vs Masculinity in movement. In this class you’ll be exploring how to present the feminine and masculine elements of various dance styles and turning gender on it’s head.

Sunday 19th September: Hand Balances & Deep Stretch (Handstands 3-4pm & Stretch 4-5pm) with Tatianna Donbavand
Do you want to be able to achieve the perfect hand balance? Are you itching to get into your splits? Well you have to put the work in! This conditioning and stretch workshop will teach you the correct exercises and muscle engagements to prepare yourself for headstands, handstands, splits and backbends. Separated into two one-hour sessions so you can pick or choose or book both for a discount.

Monday 20th September: Dance on Film (All levels, 6:30-9pm) with Kimberley Collins
Learn to dance for the camera; the focus of this workshop will be confidence and performance. You’ll be learning a choreography, but the main focus will be on how to sell this movement to the camera. At the end of the session you’ll break into small groups and record the choreography, serving face, energy and confidence right to the lens.

Tuesday 21st September: Chairography (Beg/Gen 6:30-7:45pm, Int/Adv 7:45-9pm) with Kimberley Collins
Who needs a dance partner when you have a chair? Chairography is a sexy and strong dance style using a chair as a prop, you’ll be creating bold shapes and moving fluidly around your chair by the end of this lesson.

 

Cancellations can only be refunded if made within 14 days of purchase, and provided that you cancel at least 24 hours before the relevant class. We can also swap you into a different class, but we also need at least 24 hours notice. Classes may also have to change (eg. if a teacher can’t be there), we will endeavour to notify everyone as soon as we know, and in this instance people can swap or may be entitled to a refund.

We also run a Scholarship Scheme for low income members or members in need of financial assistance. You’ll need to provide proof of financial situation. Get in touch via email or phone for more information.
